While no Filipinos have so far been reported among the casualties of the catastrophic flooding in Kerr County, Texas, the Philippine government announced on Wednesday, July 9, that it remains ready to provide assistance to any nationals in need.

The statement was made following updates from the Philippine Consulate regarding the disaster that struck Ingram, Texas, where flash floods swept through areas near the Guadalupe River on Monday, July 7. The flooding, which claimed the lives of over 100 people, devastated communities and triggered massive search and rescue operations.

“According to the latest information from our Philippine Consul-General, no Filipino has been affected by the flooding so far,” said Communications Undersecretary Claire Castro.

Despite this, the consulate continues to monitor the situation and maintain close contact with the Filipino community in Texas. “Our consulate is actively coordinating with the Filipino community. Should they require assistance, we urge them to contact us immediately. The government is fully prepared to provide any necessary support,” Castro emphasized.

She assured that no help will be withheld from any Filipinos in need. “The government is ready to extend aid in whatever form our countrymen require,” she added.

Malacañang also extended its thoughts and prayers to those impacted by the natural disaster. “Of course, we are praying for all those affected by the floods in Texas,” Castro said.

The flash floods, which occurred over the July Fourth weekend, struck in the early hours of Friday. Powerful currents tore through camps and homes along the Guadalupe River, sweeping away sleeping residents in cabins, tents, and trailers. Search teams continue to scour the area, navigating debris-laden rivers in a race to locate the missing.
