Vico Sotto Exposes Discaya’s Lies Over Hidden Luxury Cars

In a recent turn of events, Pasig City Mayor Vico Sotto has publicly criticized contractor couple Sarah and Curlee Discaya for allegedly concealing their collection of luxury vehicles. The controversy began when the Bureau of Customs (BOC) executed a search warrant on September 2, 2025, seizing 12 high-end cars from the Discaya family’s property in Pasig City. However, the situation escalated when the remaining vehicles, totaling 28, were discovered hidden in the family’s garage.

Mayor Sotto took to social media to express his disapproval, sharing a video of the Discayas’ spokesperson, Atty. Cornelio Samaniego III, attempting to explain the sudden disappearance of the vehicles. Samaniego claimed that the cars were either in use, undergoing maintenance, or temporarily relocated due to flooding concerns. Sotto responded sarcastically, stating, “With so many cars, they needed three excuses for their sudden disappearance.” He further questioned the credibility of the explanations, highlighting the implausibility of the vehicles being hidden for such reasons.

The controversy surrounding the Discayas intensified following their media appearances in 2024 and 2025, where they showcased their extensive collection of luxury cars, including a Rolls-Royce, Mercedes-Maybach, and Bentley. These interviews, conducted by journalists Julius Babao and Korina Sanchez, were later scrutinized by Mayor Sotto, who alleged that the features were paid placements, raising ethical concerns about journalistic integrity. Both Babao and Sanchez denied the allegations, asserting that the interviews were genuine and not financially motivated.

In response to the growing public outcry and media attention, the Senate initiated an investigation into the Discayas’ business dealings, particularly their involvement in government flood control projects. Reports indicated that several of these projects were either incomplete or substandard, leading to accusations of corruption and mismanagement. The Discayas’ companies, including St. Timothy Construction Corporation and Alpha and Omega General Contractor and Development Corporation, were linked to these controversial projects.

Amidst the mounting pressure, the Bureau of Customs announced that 28 luxury vehicles owned by the Discaya family were now under its custody. The agency confirmed that only three vehicles—a Maserati, a Toyota Land Cruiser, and a Cadillac Escalade—were found during the initial search, while the remaining vehicles were surrendered by the Discayas in subsequent days. The BOC is currently investigating whether the vehicles were properly declared, taxed, and legally imported.

The unfolding scandal has sparked widespread public debate about transparency, accountability, and the ethical responsibilities of public officials and contractors. Mayor Sotto has called for continued vigilance and legal action, emphasizing the importance of holding individuals accountable for their actions, regardless of their status or influence. He urged the public and media to remain engaged and not allow the issue to fade into obscurity.

As the investigation progresses, the Discayas face increasing scrutiny over their financial dealings and the legitimacy of their wealth. The outcome of the Senate inquiry and the BOC’s investigation could have significant implications for the couple’s business operations and their standing in the public eye. For now, the case remains a focal point in discussions about corruption, media ethics, and the intersection of politics and business in the Philippines.
