Vico Sotto Exposes Discaya Family Over Hidden Luxury Cars

Pasig City Mayor Vico Sotto has publicly criticized contractor couple Sarah and Curlee Discaya for allegedly concealing a collection of luxury vehicles, sparking nationwide attention. The controversy erupted after the Bureau of Customs (BOC) executed a search warrant on September 2, 2025, seizing 12 high-end cars from the Discaya family’s property. Subsequent investigations revealed that an additional 28 vehicles had been hidden, escalating suspicions of deliberate concealment.

Mayor Sotto shared a video of the Discayas’ spokesperson, Atty. Cornelio Samaniego III, who claimed the vehicles were either in use, under maintenance, or temporarily relocated due to flooding. Sotto publicly questioned these explanations, highlighting the implausibility of hiding such an extensive collection for these reasons.

The Discayas had previously showcased their luxury vehicles, including Rolls-Royce, Mercedes-Maybach, and Bentley models, in interviews with journalists such as Julius Babao and Korina Sanchez. Sotto alleged that some features may have been paid placements, raising ethical concerns, though the journalists denied any wrongdoing.

The Senate has initiated an investigation into the Discayas’ business dealings, especially their involvement in government flood control projects, some of which were reported to be incomplete or substandard. Companies linked to the family, including St. Timothy Construction Corporation and Alpha and Omega General Contractor and Development Corporation, are under scrutiny.

The BOC confirmed that 28 luxury cars are now under its custody. Only three— a Maserati, a Toyota Land Cruiser, and a Cadillac Escalade—were initially found, while the remainder were surrendered by the Discayas later. Authorities are examining whether the vehicles were properly declared, taxed, and legally imported.

This scandal has triggered public debates on transparency, accountability, and ethical responsibility among contractors and officials. Mayor Sotto urged the public and media to remain vigilant and ensure accountability, emphasizing that wealth or influence should not shield individuals from legal scrutiny.

As investigations continue, the Discayas face growing pressure regarding the legitimacy of their financial dealings and wealth. The Senate inquiry and BOC investigation could significantly impact their business operations and public reputation, marking a pivotal moment in discussions about corruption, media ethics, and the intersection of politics and business in the Philippines.
