On Tuesday, August 26, Derek uploaded a clip on his social media page showing him blindfolded and guided by Kami no Ken’s Head Coach, Nasser Qazi. In the exercise, Derek was tasked to pick several crumpled papers placed on the table in front of him, discarding those he did not choose.
“After every tough exercise, I would stamp a sheet of paper — each mark carrying a powerful emotion. I thought the journey ended with the walk, but to my surprise, there was one final test. The simplest exercise of all… yet the hardest and scariest to face,” Derek explained in the caption.
At one point in the video, Derek stopped picking up papers and focused intently on the one he had chosen. When he was told to remove his blindfold and look at it, he was visibly moved to tears.
Sharing more about the emotional moment, Derek said he felt like he actually failed: “In that moment, it felt like if I failed this one, everything I had pushed myself through — the pain, the struggle, the limits would all go to waste. So I dug deep, trusted the process, and followed my gut.”
He admitted that what followed was a total breakdown, but clarified it was not out of weakness. “As you’ll see in the video, the true essence of this program revealed itself. I completely broke down. Not from weakness, but from relief, amazement, and pure gratefulness. I found that paper holding all my emotions,” he wrote, explaining the relief and amazement he felt after the exercise.
Derek’s raw and emotional post has since resonated with many of his followers, earning admiration for his openness and willingness to share a vulnerable side of his journey.
