Kris Aquino bares she 'hates being dependent,' shows signs of recovery • PhilSTAR Life

In an Instagram post, journalist Dindo Balares, a close friend of Aquino, shared an update regarding the Queen of All Media’s health.

Totoo at genuine po ito,” he wrote, referring to a photo of Aquino appearing to have gained weight amid her battle with autoimmune diseases.

Balares added that the photo was taken in June at a private resort where Aquino has been staying.

Despite the discussions about the authenticity of the photo, Balares shared that he is thankful for people continually praying for Aquino.

“When we pray, miracles happen—proof si Krisy. Love nourishes and heals.”

From a critically low weight of 82 pounds in January to 112 pounds as of writing, Kris has “slowly but surely” been regaining strength, but she still experiences challenges. Balares recounted Aquino feeling frustrated over her physical weakness.

He went on to say that Aquino opted to stay away from the city and chose to live somewhere near the water for fresh air, which has somewhat helped with her recovery.

Although Aquino gained some weight, her arms and calves remained skinny. Sometimes, she would also have no appetite.

Balres also dismissed misleading social media posts claiming Aquino is “cancer-free,” as she has never had cancer.

Earlier in July, a separate post from host Loi Villarama, also a friend of Aquino, shared that the TV host’s health is improving as her weight reached three digits at 106 lbs since arriving in the Philippines.

Aquino returned to the Philippines in September last year after spending two years in the United States for medical tests and procedures. She is battling a total of nine autoimmune diseases: autoimmune thyroiditis, chronic spontaneous urticaria, EPGA, systemic sclerosis/scleroderma, lupus, rheumatoid arthritis, fibromyalgia, polymyositis, and mixed connective tissue disease.

In a post in February, Aquino detailed that she was “not yet fit to work” because she was “very underweight,” weighing only 82 pounds. Because of this, her medical team required her to maintain her white blood cell count above 5.5 for four weeks, her hemoglobin to at least 9.5, and her weight at 90 pounds.
